Feb 12, 2018

Richard M. Skutt

Sep 25, 1947 Feb 5, 2018
Judge Richard M. Skutt will be laid to rest today.   Judges who attend the service will be robed and process in to pay their final respects to the colleague and extend their condolences to his wife, Valerie and their family.
Judge Skutt's chamber door and his bench were draped in black to mark his death.   The Supreme Court adopted this tradition in the 19th century.
Judge Skutt died Monday at age 70.  He was appointed to the Court in 2004 by Governor Jennifer Granholm and has served in the Family and Criminal Divisions during his tenure.
Judge Skutt will be missed by the Judges of the Third Circuit Court; his long-serving Administrative Assistant, Court Reporter,  and Deputy; and the rest of his Third Circuit Court family.
"Justice consists not in being neutral between right and wrong, but in finding out the right and upholding it, wherever found, against the wrong."
